I often lament that we are not afforded more than one life to live simultaneously. I chose to come here to DC to support my wife and witness her give the biggest speech of her career before a national audience on a topic about which she is passionate, and to which she has dedicated her professional career. It was the right decision. However, at the same time, my son is playing a baseball game back in Fort Worth, and my two daughters are preparing to perform in their year-end ballet recital (N__’s first). These are the little heartbreaks that deepen my appreciation for the magic of life, and help me to see that my joy is ever balanced by longing, and there’s a hidden cost to happiness. I love you kids, and I wish I could somehow split time/space and be there to see you play and dance while still being here to see Erin shine.
