You’ve never been comfortable with the whole shoeshine thing, but damnit, your boots look like crap. And the guy’s not busy, and he could probably use the cash. So you step up and sit down. And then a well dressed cowboy (to the extent that phrase is even usable) sits in the station next to you. And he asks you if you’re wearing a Robert Graham shirt. And you’re like “uh, yeah . . . I guess so”. And he says “I knew it” and then he gives a thumbs up and a nod to another well dressed cowboy who is watching. And suddenly you’re uncomfortable with the whole shoeshine thing for entirely different reasons.
