So why do we read The Giving Tree to kids again? Because after revisiting this book just now, I’ve gotta say I think it’s message is absolutely toxic: give until there’s nothing left of you, to a taker who doesn’t seem to acknowledge or appreciate your sacrifice, and be happy about it.
